Being a kindly soul, I am trying to take a group of Graduate students(most of whom dont have a lot of cash) on a week trip in December to either Scotland, Lake District, Wales or any other interesting mountainous area anyone can think of. Scotland seemed a good deal because it was fairly easy to get from Oxford to Stansted and fly using RyanAir to Prestwick and then use public transport to get from there to the final destination.
At the moment I am being stumped because cost of bunkhouse accommodation is going to cost roughly £110 for the seven nights and renting hostels will be about the same. Does anyone have any ideas for any mountain huts or other reasonably-priced accommodation which can undercut this by a bit? It doesnt even have to be in Scotland but I am out of ideas for making this cheaper without camping(which in most mountainous areas in winter will be cold).
The Wayfarers Club have a hut in Langdale. There are no official bookings over the Xmas or New Year period. There will be some members who turn up unnanounced, as they are entitled to do, but this is usually catered for. The club is crying out for more bookings, so try [email hidden]

How about Austria??- Get a cheap flight from Stansted and do some winter walking or snow shoe walking. £611 for an apartment for 10 peolple or £235 for an apartment for 4. these are rates for december up until the 24th . Flights sholud be cheap then to.

How about Austria??- Get a cheap flight from Stansted and do some winter walking or snow shoe walking. £611 for an apartment for 10 peolple or £235 for an apartment for 4. these are rates for december up until the 24th . Flights sholud be cheap then to.

It begins to point out how ripped off we get here.
The problem is that most of these guys are already from abroad and one of the hopes was to show them the best that UK can offer.
