  1. cfsmtb,

Sounds like you got your ride report this morning on ABC Melbourne
local radio. As the clock radio turned on, I heard in my half awake
state that someone had requested a ride report from Hilary.
I think she said that there was a southerly tail wind, but that
doesn't agree with the MET observations

Indeed. That would have been around about half past six this morning.

    She did.

It's possible that the wind direction has changed since her ride in this
    morning.

I also note that Red complained that the report didn't cover tricycles
    or people on foot. 🙂

Lovely! But 'tis a pity *one* wasn't um, er, *awake* to hear it. Will get up earlier and/or post a thank you to the 774 establishment. Did she mention the RR would be a weekly/daily occurance? 🙂

I prefer to be asleep at that hour too.

I don't remember anything about it being regular. But as I said
I was only half awake. The bit that caught my attention was
that someone with your given name had requested a ride report.

Note that 6:30am is pretty early for a traffic report. A ride report
for 8:00am would be more depressing for the motorists :-)

As it usually is, when Hillary does her report on Faine's program! Sun glare, semi's jackknifing, losing loads, boom gates stuck, debris, accidents. No, you don't require a reminder.

  6. For the archive, this was triggered by the aus.bicycle thread

Dave - who'd been at work for half an hour at that stage

  9. John just read out (9:13am, wed) a email from a 'David of Carnegie'
telling how his electric bike has changed his life and getting him trim too

We could have a handy lobbyist in Hilary. Perhaps we should invite her to GOAT or see if we can get her direct email?

or coordinate a round of people to SMS in their ride-traffic reports over the coming days/weeks/years 😄😄😄

Better go put some credits on my fone. BTW, 774 are looking for a 'Drive' time presenter to replace Virginia. Any takers? I'll cross myself out 'cos I sound like Minnie Mouse. Anyway, I think Tracey rocks, so far she's played Talking Heads, Guns n' Roses, Blondie...and Boston.

You're correct about Virginia, towards the end she was *really* annoying me. Think it was the process of osmosis, ie: sitting too close to Andrew Bolt on ABC Insiders each Sunday morning. Drinking? Na, a nice cuppa Earl Grey.

Must SMS a request to play 'Infected'...bwhahahahaha

And I have only been asleep for a few hours.

Meanwhile, at 11:30, Mel in the Morning on JJJ told her guest to get a
bike, because he was whinging about petrol prices, and not being able
to afford to drive the car today. When he said "but then I'll have to
leave at 6:00", she didn't use the opportunity to say "nah you won't!"

I constantly get met with icredulity when I tell them it takes me just over an hour to ride from Dingley Village to the CBD. People just don't appreciate how fast bicycles can be :-)

I'm not even that fast, normally average 30 odd.

I'm a wee bit slower; I average about 23 kph. If I could improve my hill
climbing, it would make a huge difference; a large chunk of the time it
takes me to get to work is spent climbing up hills. I can think of three
off the top of my head that slow me down to around 10 kph.

Worst one -- and the one I use to measure my progress -- is Baker Ave,
near the intersection of Blackburn Road and the freeway, next to the
tennis courts. Bottom of the hill is at the Ivanhoe St end. Originally,
I couldn't even get to James West street without standing up and
grinding my way to the top; now, I'm maintaining the faster pedal cycle
to May Ct, or just a little bit before. Halfway there! Once I can climb
all the way to the top without losing my cadence, I'll try shifting up
one gear, and start again ...

    EXPN?

If you're referring to my gears, it's a 24 speed road bike (three front,
eight back.) And yes, I'm on the easiest combination for the climb at
    the moment.

Well there's the difference right there. Not much in the way of hills between Dingley Village and the CBD :-)
