A5 closed in North Wales

Mentioning road closures the A86 Newtonmore to Spean Bridge Road will
be closed every night from I think 2200 hours to 0700 hours to allow
for road repairs. The diversions via Inverness and Crianlarich will
add hours and miles to any journey so don't miss the 10pm closure time
or you could be stranded overnight.

I don't know what 1:50,000 you are looking at, but it looks on mine as
if there are roads around the effected area to the north and to the
south. The northern route is shorter, but if there are long queues it
may be worth coming off the A5 at Druid, along the A494 for about a
mile, then turning left at Glen-y-afon and cross-country to SH961465.

Talking of closures I was talking to my brother-in-law (by phone) on
Friday and he told me the port of Dover had been closed recently due to
gales in the channel and a cruise ship had been diverted to Harwich.
Apparently there were scores of German tourists wandering around
Dovercourt looking for postcards of the white cliffs. I don't suppose
they would have been content with cards showing the white Cliff Hotel*
which sits at the top of what remains of Dovercourts sorry apology for a
cliff.
