Gee, I wish I never made the poll...

I couldn't very well list every country on the planet, so I just put the
continents.

Sorry, didn't mean it to sound quite so rude. Maybe I should have put
in a few smilies in there :p

Anyway, it's fixed now.

Japan has unicycling in the vast majority of elementary schools, but I
don't think it's quite in all of them. UNICON III in 1987 was the
largest UNICON ever, but Japan has had larger conventions in the years
since then, with over 1000 riders. We are all looking for a new UNICON
record this summer!

I think only industrialised and consummation orientated countries are
focused by this pole. Someone who can't eat or drink clean water is not
going to play on the internet neither on a unicycle. So it's sure that
some place are more likely to have unicyclist than the others.

If we could just send them some unis to give them the fate...

I think the poll is aimed at users of this forum. Who else would vote?

Even in poor countries where the vast majority of the population has to
scrape to eat each day, there is usually a tiny minority of rich people,
some of which might have unicycles. But we don't hear much of anything
at all from less industrialized countries.

Just like Surinam was a part of Europe (for some time) until 1975.
Indonesia was in Europe (for some time) until 1948. And part of North
America (sic) was in Europe for some time until 1776, to bring matters
closer to home for many of you.

Oh and of course the western part of Russia is in Asia while the
eastern part is in Europe.

UAE is a very industrialized country. It's true that they don't have
clean tap water (although they do in the emirates of Dubai and Abu
Dhabi), however they are quite a wealthy country due to the large
amounts of oil found there.
Most of the UAE-nationals are really short people so finding a uni small
enough could be an issue.

One of the reasons I mentioned the United Arab Emirates, is because I
have a friend who I met in a chatroom who lives there. One day he said
he was bored- I said that unicycling was fun and that he should try it.
A while later he said he bought one and learned to ride. He also reckons
he has a bunch of mates who also ride them now, but he has yet to
provide photographic evidence. I invited him to join the forums but he
doesn't seem to have contributed. Maybe he is scared of the prejudice
which Americans often show to Arab people these days, even though I said
most people here are friendly. Either that or he could be pulling my leg
about him riding a unicycle, you never can be too sure on the internet!

Africa seems to be a bit under-represented, so I hope to change that a
little by the end of this week. I'm off to Uganda to do Christian
charity work for five months, and weight limit allowing, I'll take my
old 20" beginner uni with me. I have 35kg allowance, and the uni is
only about 5kg, and comes all apart so that the biggest component is the
rim at 16", which just fits into my backpack. Woo!

The prospect of five months without any unicycling is one that is rather
too fearworthy to contemplate...

Hopefully I'll have some interesting photos to post in the next few
months.

If you come here I'll be happy to ride with you, and obviously, if you
need a bed, my house is open. I live near Bologna, a good place for
Muni!
