I'm scooting up to the mould-coast on the evening of the 4th of Nov to visit my grandparents (Burleigh Waters), staying 'til Monday (early). I'm taking a roady with me. I'm tossing up whether to ride out to watch some MTB thingo Tam's riding in, or do a crit or something if there's something on the Sunday morning around there? No matter what, I'm going to be putting a good few k's in the bank on Sunday the 5th.

You might want to have a look at, and maybe post on, Road Grime, the new website for road cycling in SE Qld: http://www.roadgrime.com/ . The Event Calendar shows there's a crit at Burleigh on 5 Nov. Also the PanPacific Masters Games are on at the Gold Coast, so there will be road and track events. You might need to post to find out about bunch rides, as this bit of the site looks sparse.

I'm old enough for masters, but am not admitting it 🙂

Even I'm old enough to compete in the masters games - but only in swimming (minimum age women 25yrs, men 30yrs). I won't though, as I'm hella scared of those masters swimmers, they're FAST!

The other day my son and I were sitting in Cavill Mall at Surfers at 10.30am, eating bacon and eggs, having cycled down from BrisVegas. We saw something frightening coming up from the beach - a deeply tanned, fat, 60ish thing with lanky grey hair in a tiny pink bikini. This was bad enough, then the boy and I looked at each other and said, "Is that a bloke?". Yes, the packet in the front gave it away as a tranny. Eeek! The situation was only saved by the arrival of the Meter Maids. Enjoy the GC, Bleve!

I've been there before ... and know what to expect! Last time I flew up to Coolangatta in the back seat of a Beech Bonanza, then unpacked the bike, rode to my grandparents, stayed 24 hours (long enough in that part of the world ....) and then rode to BNE to get a ride back to Melb in the Bonanza again. 24 hours of kitch and fake beaches is enough for anyone.

Wear your best bikini, bring your pompoms and head to Kooralbyn and cheer for Tam and I.

Shane Gould qualified for the olympic selection races.
Ok, there's a CATS crit on the 5th *and* a goldstars crit on the same day. Seems odd to have two clubs running different races in the same region on the same day? I've sent emails to both clubs enquiring about their races (btw, both need a swift kick up the webmaster's behind .. their sites are *crud* where's the maps for their courses? Why are their calenders PDF's? blah ...). the crits seem pretty crazy-early (6am?!), which would mean I could do one, and then tootle out to lob rocks and moon Tam & Lotte before scooting back to the grandparents to eat everything in their fridge. Hrm ... choices ...

Are any of the crit courses there flat? 🙂
For all that lip, I trust you'll be riding to Kooralbyn and back?

I doubt I could talk my grandma into driving out there and picking me up 🙂
bloody sprinters! :p I'm not sure of terrain, but I think you can safely leave the 13-29 in the toolbox😄
I got a prompt reply from Andre Bondeson from the gold coast mob.
So, I took the liberty of creating a bikely map for the crit I'll do, which looks like it's about 15 mins ride from my grandparents. Perfect. 7am... finish around 8 I guess, then ride out to the MTB thingo, with beer cans and a klaxon.
