A visit to "The Uncycle Factory"

O.K. My boy and I ran into Tom at the library yesterday. He had his hair
dyed bright red. I suffered a tablesaw accident a month ago and had
asked him about growing fingernails. Meanwhile, I broke about 1/4th of
another fingernail while mounting a mower deck. It's sort of like if my
finger were an American flag, the blue star area would be separated
from the rest, but still attached to my finger. Anyway, it's painful
having a piece like that floating around so I bought a fingernail kit
and glued on a fake fingernail to keep the pieces together. It works,
but Tom says it will only last a couple of days. Now I'm scared of what
will happen if the fake fingernail only remains on the floating piece.
I guess I'll have to tape it together, or bite the bullet and remove
the floating piece.

*His nails are real*. He coats them with acrylic top and bottom. He
described how he has to apply more than necessary and buff it to make
it smooth, otherwise it collects dirt. He has trouble w/ the stuff
separating from the nail. The whole process takes a couple of hours.
Now I know a little about HOW he does this, but I still don't
understand WHY.

So here I am in the parking lot of the library talking about
fingernails to a guy with 10" long fingernails and bright red hair.

Let's talk about unicycles. It's warming up in indiana. I have a 6 mile
course I ride my Coker on. Last fall, I was happy to break 36 minutes
on the course. I think I got below that, but my goal yesterday was to
break 36 minutes, which is 10 miles per hour. My first measured mile
was under 6 minutes, so I was feeling good, but the next 2 miles were
in a headwind and I lost several seconds. I was behind schedule when my
crank started coming loose so I walked the 3/4 miles home.

I guess I'll have to put more torque. I have 5" cranks. I read that
Lars Clawson, who rode all around the USA used 4" cranks. I have enough
trouble w/ the 5" for now.
