I'm a male that's been going to a female massage therapist for about a year. My forearms are messed
up from playing drums and guitar. She has been giving deep tissue massage on the effected muscles
and all the surrounding ones as well. I understand this approach, but would like her to spend more
time on the specific muscles. I feel that I can communicate with her and have asked several times.
It just seems like she does not like derivating from her routine. I need advice. Also, a couple of
other issues have cropped up for me. Sometimes, especially when I'm on my stomach, I'll fall asleep
for a few seconds and start to snore. This wakes me immediately and I startle. It is embarrasing and
I would like to know if this is normal. Also, I take caution to pee before a session, but worry what
will happen if I have to go midway. What is the protocol? One more question. What if I'm on my
stomach and she is massaging my lower back and I have to fart? I would be mortified to lay a stench
in that small room. How have any of you handled this situation in the past. I have put myself on
fart hold before and although it kind of ruins the session, it is preferable to the alternative,
Thanks for your input.

long does your massages last? If she is working with you for an hour, she may feel obligated to
stray from the arms. Maybe you could tell her to work them again, or deeper, or you could schedule
with her more often, with shorter sessions, just focusing on the affected muscles. The other option
is to try another therapist...there is nothing wrong with trying someone else.Quoted message said:

work on. Again, you just need to talk to your therapist, or go to someone new.It is not embarrassing that you snore and startle yourself awake. Happens all the time.
Make sure to go to the bathroom before your session. If you have to go mid-way, don't be
uncomfortable, just tell her and go. A lot of therapist have robes available, you could slip it on
and go and be back to the table in a jiffy.Passing gas is a natural body function. When one relaxes in a massage, it gives the digestive system
time to work. You are not the only one who experiences flatulence. If you do pass gas, a polite
excuse me will dispel any weird vibes in the room. Try not to eat anything heavy 2 hours before a
massage, if gas is an issue frequently.Hope this helps. Tiff

simply because that is what I was taught. We don't really learn anything besides anatomy and "a"

enough for you to be able to specifically ask your therapist to concentrate on particular muscles
and expect her to try and accomodate.Quoted message said:

I can respond to the following part of the question. I'm a student and took
my Shiatsu final last Friday. Prior to starting the exam I offered a
restroom visit to my client, a perfect stranger to me. She made the visit
and returned. When I began I could hear a lot of abdominal activity
happening with her. No sweat, I'm blindfolded and can't see her at all. I
start the Kata and things are going well. About 10 minutes into the routine
she breaks wind. Not loud, but she and I are both acutely aware it's
happened. What happens? I continue and say nothing. The intent is for me
to allow and help her to get benefit from the session. I wasn't offended in
the least, she certainly had the option to ask me to stop so she could make
another visit to the restroom, but it's not my place to suggest it. She had
so much intestinal activity happening that I skipped the Hara diagnosis
portion of the routine for fear of really making things bad for her. As it
was, she never really relaxed. RELAX, if it happens, it's ok to just excuse
yourself. Try to not eat anything that is going to cause you to have gas
prior to going for a massage. Good luck!!

Where did you study Shiatsu?

therapeutic anymore. Palliative, maybe, but you could take
an ibuprofen for that.Quoted message said:

Especially if it's one of those farts that turns out to be
really watery [censored] instead of just gas. It's bad enough to
do one of those in your underpants, but imagine squirting it
out all over the massage table.
