9spd crank w/10spd parts?

I'm using Shimano 8spd cranks/front der (7410) with the rest of my bike
being 10spd... works very well :-)

No problem. Technically, the 10 speed chainrings are slightly different:
they mount at the same point, but the teeth are infinitesimally closer to
the other ring(s). That's done to avoid the remote possibility of the
(thinner) chain 'skating' over the rings (it still won't fall in between,
which would be a real problem). In practice, nobody cares except the
merchants who like to sell you useless [censored].

So is the reverse true as well, i.e. the new 10-speed crank working with a
9-speed group (Dura Ace in particular)?

To the best of my knowledge, that will work, however you may have to use a
10sp chain.

yes, w/o problem. Don't use a 10s chain as the otherwise 9s system
won't shift the 9s cogset at all. Chain must match the cogset, not the
crank rings.

Just for nfo, I know one of the wrenches for Gerolsteiner(sp?) and they
used DA 9s rings on their otherwise 10s stuff...cuz they folded a few
of the 10s ones.

But it all worked fine and dandy. He also said they didn't have a
single lever failure all last year...good for shimano, to finally make
a more reliable lever.

Did see some bent rear axles tho...new hubs.
