  1. Progress Report....
The 9 year old ran his first race of this season. Lecompte Pie
Festival 5K Time: 26:44. We are looking for more information about the
Junior Olympics, qualifications. He may not be one of the fastest kids
but he would love to try.

In your child's age group the longest event is 1500 meters (mile) which should
tell you something. The basic info can be found here:

There are two different competitions: The Junior Olympics and the USA Youth
Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Both of these have qualifying standards.
In the Junior Olympics, qualifying for the national meet requires placing in
regionals. In the Bantam Boys (age 10 and under), this would require a 1500m
time of roughly 5:00. For the Youth Track and Field Championships, the
    qualifying standards are these:

    Qualifying window: July 6, 2003 - June 14, 2004

    Boys
Bantam Boys (born 1994 or later)
    100m 14.64
    200m 29.84
    400m 1:11.04
    800m 2:43.00
    1500m 5:31.00
    1600m 5:54.00
    Mile 5:55.00
    1500m Race Walk 11:05.00
    Mile Race Walk 11:55.00
    High Jump 1.15 / 3-9
    Long Jump 3.77 / 12-4
    Shot Put (6 lb.) 6.47 / 21-3
    Mini Javelin Throw 18.39 / 60-4
    4x100m 1:00.94
    4x110yd. 1:01.24
    4x400m 5:21.00
    4x440yd. 5:23.00

  3. Isn't there also a cross country championship? Wouldn't that be at about
    3000 meters?

There is a 3000 meter race in the regular junior olympics, but not for kids 10
and younger. The cross country junior olympics are 3000, not 5K for bantam and
    midgets.

  7. Don't bother, after the report I just made, the child welfare
authorities will be taking your kid away.

Then you'd be typing from the hospital.

  10. It use to be nice to have a place to post and speak with other runners
and now this message board has turn into total trash. I am sorry once
again that so many of you have a problem with my 9 year old running.
Is it because you as a child never left the sofa with your bag of
chips or as an adult you can not even walk to the bath room. Instead
you sit at your computer desk with nothing else better to do than to
downgrade those of us who care enough about ourselves and our child to
get up and get out. Your health may not be of any concern, but ours
is. Just remember it is only you that has to answer to what you have
done. How about that person that truely wanted to get answers and
instead that got your anal BS and dies in a few years because you
downgraded them so they could not get out there. I am sure that you
are just reading this trying to think of what other mean nasty
disgusting things that you can come up with. I am sure in some kind of
twisted way you might be a nice person, and I hope that I speak to all
when I say go start yourself a hatred message board and please stay
away from this one. You never now how many kids are reading this
garabage that you post. It is people like you that forces parents like
me to have to safe guard our kids on the internet. The internet was
created for networking reasons, to share information and to learn not
    for this stuff..................

Don't take it personally. Most admire that your kid runs but are simply
rec.running trolls. I think they think they are somehow amusing. Keep your
kid running and they won't get fat.

I enjoyed your post and appreciated it! The best thing to do is to just
killfile the trolls. Life is too short...
