Wait till they're worn out, and the parts will be as cheap as they can
possibly be. Heck, you can still buy 6 spd *freewheels* for $10 if you
shop around. They'll be made for the next 20 years at least. No
worries. Sram cassettes are my preference, btw, and often cheaper than
Shimano.

There's stacks of 9 speed sitting around as well as 8 and 7 speeds still.
No need to upgrade at the moment. Its always a good idea having spare
chains and clusters sitting around though.

There are still shimano 8s cogsets, I think 9s for shimano will be
arond for a while-casette wise.

BTW-for 10s, all you need is the shifter, cogset and chain..not ders...

Hi, if you need to upgrade to 10-speed, all you will need is the
shifters, cassette, and chain.

I would keep an eye out for sales and buy spare cassettes, when the
price is good.
Having a spare chain is a good idea, but you will never have trouble
getting one. The models and levels of quality may become more
limited, in years to come.

Shimano stopped making my tourer's chainrings so I got some nice
Blackspire ones.

Don't forget IRD, Sram, and Miche make 9s cassettes. Miche makes 9s and 10s
cassettes for both Campy and Shimano splined hubs. I recently purchased a
Miche 9 and its "as good, if not better" than Campy Veloce, especially for
*under $40* (Miche 10 can be found as low as $50-55 too). Feels almost
ultegra-quality. We'll see how long it last.

I admit to some nervousness, given the direction Performance has been
taking Nashbar. As long as the original Nashbar kept up with stocks
of older, lower end lines, I was OK with that. But Performance seems
to be pushing the latest high end lines (DuraAce 10 speed at the
moment) into the Nashbar catalog.

There's still the house brands, though.
