Does anyone have any experience of this tent from Decathlon? Apparently it can be erected in a few seconds by chucking it in the air!
It looks fairly useful as a base tent but won't be any good to carry any distance. It's too heavy and the photos in Decathlon's magazine make the bloke carrying it look like a mutant ninja turtle! Might be OK as a paraglider though.
Incidentally, I asked a camp-site manager (at Crowden) if he'd seen it used and he looked at me rather strangely. It has since occured to me that this was on April 1st, so I can now understand his incredulity!

Sounds like a bivy tent, the frame of which is bendy wire that can be folded into a figure of 8 to collapse. If it's what I think it is it'll be single skin only and therefore only really suitable for summer camping. Of course, if you'd provided an URL we could have seen for ourselves... -- If you can keep your head when all around are losing theirs... then you've failed to grasp some important aspect of the situation.

It is double skin - I've looked for it on Decathlon's website, wwww.decathlon.co.uk , but can't find it. It is however on view on www.quechua.com. I've seen the tent - it's actually the '2 second tent'- in the Stockport store and there's an article on it in the spring edition of 'Quechua', their magazine.
Briefly, '... it is held up by two perpendicular tensions, one produced by the poles under the flysheet and the other in the middle of the groundsheet in the inner tent.'
Incidentally. I believe Decathlon is owned by the same (family) company that owns 'Auchun', the French supermarket chain .
Just an addendum to my last post. The magazine on the Quechua website is the Winter 2005 edition, which seems to have come before the Spring 2005 edition. I suppose there is some sort of logic there.

Oh wow, that's much better than the one I was thinking of - I want one! Is that really €49.90? I could cope with not using it in gale force winds[1] at that price.

Have you actually seen one in the flesh? They've a couple on display in my local Decathlon and they look pretty impressive actually. They seem to be quite stable when pegged out.. ..looks a bit of a faff trying to get them packed up again tho..
