Note that the car hitting a cyclist en route barely merited a word. No
idea of the cyclist's condition. Still, the driver got instant if rough
justice.

I certainly have no sympathy for anyone who dies while riding (by
choice) in a stolen car with a drunk driver. OK, we don't /know/ from
the story that the driver was drunk, or whether (s)he had even been
drinking. We /do/ know that (s)he was a thief and a menace to other
road users. No sympathy deserved.
Of course, I have sympathy for their families.

We've all done stupid things as teenagers. Fortunately for most of us
the stupid things we've done haven't had tragic consequences.
No one deserves to have their life wasted at such a young age.

Why do you think it's acceptable in a public forum to use such language in a
public forum? Do you feel your argument will carry more weight by so doing?

Not even then, no. Human life is sacred and children precious. Who
are we to sit in judgment and say they deserved to die.

This report doen't mention the fact that the crash occurred at 1.40 am
either...
On the face of it this crash looks like just another late night boy
racer smash, compounded by the fact they they had been getting [censored]
up in a graveyard (not 'grieving after a funeral' as some joker
suggested...).
Anti-social idiots like these racing around at high speed in the middle
of the night is now a national problem. (And driving whilst [censored] IS
anti-social, as is driving around in a stolen car and given that all of
them in the car died in the crash I feel there is little question that
dangeroulsy high speeds were involved as well...)
The following was printed in The Daily Mail on 23/10/05
23/10/05 - News section
Report attacks young motorists
Some young motorists show "an alarming disregard" for their own and
others' safety when driving at night, an AA Motoring Trust report
reveals. Interviews with young drivers showed many liked testing
themselves and their cars to the limit, often on unlit roads. Some
regularly indulged in drinking and driving, while some regarded having
a road accident "as a rite of passage" Others thought it was actually
safer to speed at night as "you'd be able to see the lights of oncoming
traffic". The report also showed that male drivers aged 17-20 were
seven times more at risk from accidents that all male drivers. Between
the hours of 2am and 5am, the risk was 17 times higher - with about 225
of 17-20 year old male drivers being killed or seriously injured
annually. Males aged 21-25 had twice as much at risk compared with all
male drivers, but this increased to three times at risk between 2am and
5am.
AA Motoring Trust road safety head Andrew Howard said: "Inexperienced
driving, a cavalier attitude to life, a night-time social life
involving alcohol, and driving too fast, are combining to kill and maim
young people and other road users every night of the week." End quote.
The problem has go so bad in Aberdeen that the council are having to
spend £170,000 to set up barriers closing the towns Beach Boulevard
between 10pm and 6am to combat the late-night racers, known
colloquially as the "bouley bashers".

Would that be this joker?
"Daniel and Danielle were said to be grief stricken after attending the
funeral of a 16-year-old girl from college, who had died of a brain tumour.
Charlene Lunnon, 16, said she was with Danielle, Daniel, and Kelly
"messing around" and drinking beer in the graveyard of the
Church-in-the-Wood church in St Leonards before the accident."

Human life isn't sacred you bible bashing loser. We're just animals like dogs and cats. Its sad when a cat dies its sad when a human dies but thats about it. I cant stand the way people think human life is more than just something biological working. How arrogant is that? Furthermore human death is just a biological organism breaking. If life is that precious then I hope you dont use bleach because that kills living bacteria in their millions. And what about taking a shower - all those dead skin cells
And another thing, whilst I'm having a rant, if it came down to choosing between the baby of a junky on a council estate or an academic researching something that will benefit us all it would be the baby whom gets the chop I'm afraid.
Despite this, it is still saddening that a gang of youths have died in an accident. They wouldn't have expected their behaviour could lead to this conclusion and I really feel sorry for all the individuals involved. In fact I feel sorry for every idiot that kills him or herself in a car because its their ignorance and stupidity that blinds them to the fact that they are a total danger behind the wheel.

OK, that wasn't mentioned in the report I read, but this hardly excuses
racing around in a stolen car in the middle of the night....

No. But that doesn't prevent people from feeling vindicated when an
individual chooses to remove themselves from the game.

Do grief stricken people mess around in churchyards, take drugs and
then set off on high speed adventures in cars that are not their
own? Perhaps some do, but it is more likely that grief stricken
people would sit around doing very little.
The position the car ended up in indicates that it was travelling at
a very high speed for the location. While I wouldn't say that it is
good riddance to bad rubbish, as some have (not with those precise
words), neither would I be too worried about their deaths.
Endangering oneself is one thing, endangering others is quite
another.

I think you will find it affects different people in different ways.
Some sit around morosely, some get angry and destructive. Getting [censored]
is quite common. Either way, five families are without their children
today and often kids are there because of group pressure, not because
they wanted to be.

Ok, fair do's Tony, I should have read the later report more carefully.
The earlier reports I had already read certainly did not suggest that
two of the girls killed in the crash were getting [censored] in a graveyard
in the middle of the night before racing around the streets in a stolen
car because they were upset about a friends death.
Whatever the circumstances of those two girls non of this excuses the
behaviour of scumbag who stole the car and whoever it was who was
driving the car when they crashed.

I get absolutely sick of hearing excuse after excuse for juvenile delinquent
behaviour. The cry "They've got nothing to do", They have no prospects",
"They're easily lead. Well tough, welcome to the real world. If anybody out
there nicks my car, or whatever and totals themselves doing then I couldn't
give a toss about them and revel in the fact they're DEAD.
