46-34-24 Shimano Comp 9 Speed?

I've been using this exact chainring combo on my Sugino XD crank on my tourer for several years (>8k
miles), without problem. Maybe your chainline is off? What troubles getting them to work?

It's something about the rings. The rings on my crankset are offset different than the rings I got
from my bikeshop. A friend of mine worked on it, but he got carried away and tried grinding the
crank (without my permission.)

He was trying to make me happy.

His friendship means more to me than a crankset so I let it pass...

The Sugino 24.34.46 is such a popular crank that I believe the problem lies elsewhere. Perhaps
either a different front changer or a different mechanic may be helpful?

I would say just some better rings, Like TA. And an older MTB front der...for
46/48 rings.

Steve, since you're with the ACTC and close by, I can take a good look at it. Perhaps it just needs
fine tuning with the rear derailleur. You can bring it by and I can put it on the bike stand and go
through the gears. I just bought the Sugino XD crank 46, 36, 26 but haven't mounted it on a touring
bike I'm building. I've noticed the middle 36t ring has funny cuts, where some of the teeth are
shorter than the others. Looks like this was done intentionally. Also the're shifting bulges on the
inside middle ring, going to the smaller chainring, never seen this before. I wouldn't mind getting
a feel of how this crank shifts before I mount mine. Maybe I'll have to return the crank? -tom

Sounds like a BB axle length problem. Different cranks will need different BB lengths to produce an
appropriate chainline. See what BB axle is recomended for these cranks and check yours. From what
you say, it sounds like the chainrings need to move out a bit, in which case a BB with a longer axle
will do the job. Check with your LBS or see what BB is recomended with your cranks and see if your
existing one measures up.
