Why and how is Tony S "exempted" from criticism...for picking out
someone on the NG and daring to race them for money? The very nature
of Tony's behavior merits exploring and probing...no? Can anyone on
this NG recall another person ever doing such a thing?

FWIW I have "picked out someone": it wasn't about racing me, but I
"dared" someone to make true on a time goal. It wasn't about a hundred
bucks, either, but in principle it wasn't any different from what Tony
did. No one objected then for the simple reason that veryone saw it for
what it was - a friendly shove in the right direction - and no-one
mistook it for a Big [censored] Challenge (although it could easily have been
interpreted as such, if one so desired).

Tony's purpose with the wager clearly wasn't to make you look bad in
case you turned it down or to prove his superiority ot your inferiority
in case you lost it, but simply a friendly-minded effort to get you out
to actually try the very thing you had already voiced such strong
    opinions about.

I really cannot how the "dare" could've come less "out of the blue"
than it did or how he could have expressed in a more "undarelike
manner" than he did - and I cannot see how the choice of $100 instead
of say, a package of glucosamines could have made it so much uglier.

It is "White Privilege" that suppresses expression of opinion of Tony's
action. You are all granting, extending, and endearing to Tony "White
Privilege", whether you are aware of it or not. Racism works in subtle
ways...and this is just one of them. No, you're not racist, you
though are guitly of endearing white privilege to Tony. You white
guys are not willing to examine Tony's elected conduct and run it
    through the ringer.

I know you're just pouring java, but you know, you sometimes get what
you ask for: Lance, you diddlypiddly you, I bet ten bucks that I'll
beat you over any distance on any similar pair of skis on any day up
and including December 31st, 2026. And that's only because I believe in
the superiority of the abilities I've inherited from my forefathers in
the Central Asian steppes over your 5K times.
