29" CONVERSION

no 29" is not the same as 700, 700 is closer to 27". I don'
t see how you could fit a 29" wheel on your standard mountain bike. Maybe if you purchased a '29 fork, but then the front would be so high it would be like a chopper.

...thats not necessarily a bad thing..

That's outside diameter. Both the 700c and 29" standards use a 622mm bead seat diameter, so the rims are the same. A 29" front and 26" rear has been done before, but it might throw the steering off a bit on a standard frame:

Maybe if you were going from a suspension to a rigid fork, or at least a fork with less travel you might be able to keep the axel to crown distance the same, and it wouldn't mess with the head tube angle.

I was thinking of using a Surly 29" rigid fork or a Pace RC29 Carbon Rigid fork (far nicer but about 5x the price). I don't want to invest a lot on this whim, but it would be cool to have a reason to ride the soft tail again as there are nice parts on it overall. WOuld the longer fork give the bike a slacker head tube angle? My ID has a 69 head tube and the KHS soft tail is NORBA 71.
