Do you mean 26"? I can't imagine there is such a beast as what you
describe; unless its a niche market. I'm sure there's up/down
adjustment on most cantis same as calipers.

Plenty of old touring and crosser frames with canti bosses for 27"
wheels.

MSeries: I don't know the answer for certain, but it's worth a go. The
two sizes aren't /that/ different after all.

My minimal flabber wouldn't be totally gasted if there was a bike made
with cantis and 27" wheels. 700c wheels are 8mm smaller in diameter,
meaning the blocks need lowering by 4mm. I /think/ most cantis can manage
that.

Alternatively, a deep-drop caliper brake could be fitted. I once replaced
a canti with a dual-pivot Alhonga. Even though they're supposed to be no
better in theory, I got better braking as a result, with a lighter action
as well (less spring force to overcome).

It's only a small difference so some designs of brake will adjust
enough but others wont so suck it and see. I've put 700 wheels in old
27" frames with no probs.

I'd give it a go. I had a touring bike in the 80's which had Mafac
cantis and 27" wheels. I managed to adjust the brakes to take 700C sprints.

You might wonder why I did this...

I didn't really want to ride the local club 10 on 27" touring wheels and
mudguards. The bike did look a bit odd since the clearances were huge
when riding sprints.

It worked for me and for plenty of others I know, you might not even
have to change the calipers. Also, do fit Kool-Stop pads.

Thanks for the responses. I have actually replaced the 27" wheels on my
tourer with 700c ones, this was 15 years ago. My frame & fork were
drilled for caliper brakes so fitting a long reach Accor and ALhonga was
easy though the original centre pull calipers were just good enough for
13 years !!. The bike in question here is a rather tasty Mercian I have
seen on eBay, he says 27" wheels and rather nice wide profile cantis,
the way they should be IMHO.

Regarding Three Peaks, I know a relly of the the guy who 'owns' this
race, Rob Jebb, I know what this guy is like and how much a nutter one
needs to be to win, not even I would do that.

I might add the bike isn't for me and we have decided not to go for it
since its too far for us to go to veiw it.

Depends on the cantis and how the blocks fit to them it can be a bit
tricky with the old Mafacs [1], f'rinstance. However, some cantis do
and, if the ones on your bike don't, you can always replace them with
another sort.

[1] it is still possible though, if you're not too worried about the
blocks being square on to the rim.

I should be inclined to try before you buy. My fixer started life with
630s and cantilevers and now has 622s and a linear-pull on the front.
There /was/ enough adjustment in the brakes, but only just.
