After several weeks of vacillation I finally bit the bullet and bought a pair of 26x1.25" tyres and a 10-pack of tubes from Torpedo7. They arrived today, so I spent half an hour over lunchtime fitting them up to the bike and admiring the result.
I might be pushing it a bit fitting them to 1.75" wide rims, but they look OK fitment-wise. I pumped them up using my little compact pump until I became tired, so they've probably got about 80psi in them rather than the 100psi they're rated for.
I've done a quick turn around the underground carpark, and they certainly have more grip than the previous 26x1.5" Cheng Shin I had on the front - that thing was deadly on wet concrete cycle paths. The real test will come on the trip home tonight, and the return commute tomorrow morning.

Strange thing, though. They claim to be 1.25, but are substantially "fatter" than the Continental sportcontact 1.3's I've also run. This is on the same rims.
I have no idea who is "right" about their measurements, but I have my suspicions ;-)

I've been through a couple and for the money they're fine.
Mine picked up a wire or something. Replaced it with a Marathon, which seems to ride better and be as fast or even faster.
The Marathon is a 1.3 but substantially wider than the 1.25 Inova, so damfino.
I'll bet! They were so new and sticky that for the first 10km or so they were picking up bits of gravel and flicking them against the down tube - I was riding along with a steady "plinking" noise! ;-)
If I had tyres that sticky on my motorbike they'd be worn out in under 1000km. But by Gadfrey they'd hang on well! :-D

OK, who of the ausmoto folks are in Canb, and might possibly be bicycle types? Me, you, your vastly-easier-on-the-eyes lady, ZeeBee....anyone else?
OK. They were very sticky for the first 10km, picking up little bits of gravel and flinging them off against the downtube making a steady plink-plink-plink noise. ;-)
As expected they roll *much* more easily than the 60psi 26x1.5" tyres they're replacing. Obviously I've still got some drag from the dynamo hub on the front, but I'm able to run 1 gear higher than before along most of the commute. The ride is a bit more harsh than before, but the cheap suspension forks and sprung seat keep the ride comfortable.
The verdict: good so far, but we'll have to wait and see how long they last!
