24 Hr Race

Congratulations on a race well ridden, guys! Unicycling in that race
have come a long ways, eh, Sofa?

What a great mix of older and younger, male and female, West and East
Coast, Canada and US, too.

25 teams is so nice... that is lovely. The Mountain Mayhem race has
something like 1000 teams! So we sort of get lost a little bit. But
did hear from a reliable source that Unicycle.com was the largest
sponser in number of teams at the event last year!

Actually I think Lifestyles was 22 teams plus 16 soloists - for a total
of 38 riders at a time, on 11km of trail. Contrast that to 400 riders
out in 6.8km of trail in the Moonride - during the second half of the
race.

Moonride: 100 riders per mile or one rider every 52'.
Lifestyles: 38 riders in 7 miles or one rider every 1000', 5% of the
density.
Laguna Seca: 300(?) riders per 10.7 miles or one every 188'.

Mountain Mayhem sounds wild. 1000 riders spread out over 12 miles is one
every 63' which is almost as crowded as the Moonride. I'm looking
forward to it...I guess!

In the Lifestyles race, on one of my laps I counted a total of 4 bikes
passing me on the whole course. On another lap it was 6 with me passing
one, and on my final lap, 5 bikes passed me and I passed one.

This race was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed hanging with the California
guys, and it was like a big long unicycling weekend, but only smaller,
so you could hang with everyone at once. It was super-cool.

Anyways, i think that what i'd change for next year, is that i'd have to
borrow more lights for my night lap, if it was misty, and also to push
it a bit more, and i think we could have squeezed in another lap or 2.

I agree with the course density thing. I think the most i was passed was
on the lap where i ran most of it. (passed by 7 people) and other than
that the most was probably 3. And on my final lap, i didn't get passed
at all, (and ended up passing 3 bikers).

All in all it was a great experience, and i hope you guys all come up
again next year, but it will have to be for a bit longer, and maybe we'd
be able to ride a bit on thursday and friday or something like that.

And i must say, that the new Dave Stockton wheel i got was sweet. It
would have sucked to have to do the race on my old wheel.

Did people also ride 24"ers at the race? Many of the unis in the
pictures seem to be smaller than 29ers. The photos that are obviously of
29ers are: the one of Nathan on the first page, the pic of Ryan on the
second page and the rider wearing black on the second page.

Sofa, we will probably be able to come next year. If I do just one 24
hour race next year, I think it would be yours. I'll send you the photo
you asked for tonight - off for a round of disc golf now (have to take a
rest day after yesterday's ride with over 3500' up and down!)
