  1. Hi

I'm new to this group, but after recieving zero responce in RBR I will try putting my post here:

I represent a large danish club for recreational riders planning to arrange a 24 hour race in
Denmark next summer (5. june), and if I'm able to delegate all the jobs, I will be racing too... The
Michigan race ( n24hc.orgindex.html ) is the source of inspiration. Please give me all
your tips, links and recommandations both on riding and arranging such a race.

    Try RBM.

and, your event is so specialized, don't be upset if you get few responses. I doubt very many people
have the expertise you're looking for. Good luck with your race, though! I would participate if I
    could travel to the Netherlands.

Have you contacted the Michigan group directly? Seems to me that would be the first stop.

That's OK, I would make large errors trying to figure where most american states is placed

I contacted them one week ago, and they are very helpful, answering a lot of our questions. Maybe I
should have told you about that, I was just looking for alternative input as well.

  8. There is a long-established and VERY big (like 25,000 participants, as I recall) 24-hour event in
Sweden, but I presume you already know about it.

I suppose you refer to Vätternrunden: 300 km in rolling landscape and max 17500 participants. At
the moment 14234 has signed in. cyklavaettern.comindex.asp
Start is in the night, I never really figured out why... Their list of tips & advice (in
    swedish...) is very good

I'm an American and I would expect any American with enough intelligence to figure out how to post
to usenet news to also know the difference between the Netherlands and Denmark. It might be a
stretch to expect them to know where Jutland (Jylland) and Zealand (Sjelland) were.

I certainly know they are different countries, but I could not have told you to within a factor of 5
    how far apart they were.

  12. I participated in the Michigan event in 1999 and suspect you'll get more useful information from the
sponsors than here. They did an excellent job! There are so many diverse considerations that only
the sponsor could begin to address them in any systematic way, and answer your specific questions as
    they arise.

I liked their idea of having a c. 125 mile initial loop, followed by a c. 30 mile intermediate loop,
followed by a c. 7 mile night-time loop. But to make that work, you need a large staff of
workers/volunteers. I suspect you may have to settle, for your first effort, on a single short loop,
with check-in points on each extreme of the loop. That would cut your staffing needs for that
crucial measurement. Beyond that, depending on avialable staffing and funds, you can add refreshment
stations, shower facilities, camping facilities, intermediate result boards, riding marshalls,
    police protections and other fringes.

We plan to do it basicly the same way.

John and Diane just informed, that they use 150 helpers. I believe we can reduce that a bit as we
probably will have a much lower number of participants, but our club has arranged very big races and
has many members ready to work, so I'm only slighty worried...
