Some of you may remember I posted about a mate who was going to do a 24
hour solo endurance event, looking for audax routes to train on.
Anyway, thought I'd post about his incredible achievement this weekend:
HANS SOLO (LSST) 493:24km at a speed of 20:39 km/hour for second place.
118 laps and came 419th in the general classification out of nearly
600 entries, most of which were teams of up to 10 skaters. What a
nutter, I've never seen such incredible endurance, dreadful pain, and
physical toughness in a human being. Every time I think about the race
and the finish and Hans, it brings tears to my eyes.
LondonSkaters Speed Team One - 748.22km total - 31.08km/hour average
speed - 179 laps of the Bugatti circuit. 12th position in the general
classification. This was my team, I was so proud to skate with them!
The hardest part for us was the battle in the last three hours, where
we were 13th at the time, and 14th team, RSVP attacked hard. It took
us an hour and a half of back breaking work to stave them off, and they
eventually cracked and blew up. As part of this battle we overtook
12th, Valence Roller Skating, which initiated another battle with the
lead to-ing and fro-ing between us. We eventually beat them in the
final 500m sprint thanks to our fastest and only pro skater Gav.
