Noticed as well, when cyclingnews.com showed pix of gruppos, that the
Centaur hubs have been downgraded as well. Trying to put a little more
differentiation between the top and the middle. Can't get Record
quality hubs for half the price and 20 more grams anymore!

Centaur hubs have been downgraded as well. Trying to put a little more
differentiation between the top and the middle. Can't get Record
quality hubs for half the price and 20 more grams anymore!

Really, did you get the black or silver skeleton brakes? I thought the
silver looked kind of interesting:

I too am disappointed that Campy has decided to "downgrade" its Centaur
hub. I thought Centaur was the best value in Campy's line up and the
new 2007 hubs definitely are a disappointment:

Record and Chorus ERGO changes for 2007 are a shorter lever movement of
the FD/left lever to move the chain(called QS-quick shift)..right lever
no changes. Centaur and below are variations of Xenon levers, with
index left shifter/FD...and one smaller(higher gear) change per click
for the right lever-called 'Escape'....

Skeleton brakes look better than ZeroGrav AND Force from Sram,
IMO...are light and functional as well and less money than ZG...altho
in the same weight range.

Gotta agree about the bubs and levers...down-ing Centaur....I am sure
the only reason Record and now Centaur/Veloce hubs are being offered is
that there is a complete wheel based around them...

Haven't been able to appreciate them in person, rather, merely
aesthetically in digital renderings.

Love the look of the silver ones. Wouldn't mind having them but already
have recent vintage Record and Chorus all over my bikes and there are
other more important things my money is committed to (home repairs
mainly, ugh).

I think they look great. Yes, way better than those little billet ZGs.

I'd be more concerned about the bearings inside, their quality,
serviceability, etc, rather than the external shell appearance of a hub. I
can't tell anything about the bearings from the photographs listed above.

That said, they've got at least a dozen years before I'll need new wheel
hubs given my usual churn rate of bicycles.

Agree about the bearings, that's really the most important part. We
need to see more. However, from the photos, it looks like the new
Centaur/Veloce/Mirage level rear hub loses the adjustment of the
Record/Chorus. That would be ashame as the 2006 and earlier
Record/Chorus/Centaur was easy to adjust.
