  1. I know it's a long way off but is anyone out there contemplating/planning
the Edinburgh-London next year, especially the Doncaster start?

I haven't really decided yet but I have a vague idea I would like to do it.
I would like to keep in touch with anyone else who is thinking of doing it
so we can share thoughts and words of encouragement.

I'd love to do it but it depends on several factors such as getting in
the practise doing "shorter" distances (including at least one 600,
preferably a whole SR series) and what else is going on in my life at
the time of the event - unfortunately, the date has been set for a time
of year when I am normally very busy with work - plus we've got the
family holiday booked for the first two weeks of August anyway.

The short answer is: probably not. 🙁

Maybe if I do it it'll be the Doncaster start for me too. I don't know if I
will be able to find the time & motivation to prepare myself for it. Where
    are you based Ian ?

I'm very definately considering it, but the only downside for me (Other
than the phenominal distance) is that despite being _Edinburgh_ to
London, there is no start in Edinburgh. I understand the need for
limited starts to take pressure of the controls, but I suspect that
reaching Edinburgh and then turning around will be quite depressing.
Does the Doncaster start go north first? If so, I'd be more likely to
start from there (Although it's easier to get to than London, so I'd
    probably start there anyway!).

I'm now looking out at the clear blue sky (And ignoring the howling
gale!) and wishing that I was out on a bike instead of counting cables
    in a warehouse.

Yes. One idea is to get the hilly bit done while fresher.

I am near Nottingham. It wouldn't be difficult to get to London but I
prefer the idea of a Doncaster start as I suspect it would be less crowded.

That depends. If it's a howling 30 mph southerly wind, then no!

I'm doing it. Starting in London, though.

But it's not, it's London-Edinburgh-London, or LEL for short.

According to the title of the Audax UK page devoted to it "Edinburgh-
London 2005". The do use the longer title lower down, but it does appear
    to in fact be... Edinburgh-London.

I match your pedantry, and I raise you some more.

Now then, don't go confusing the issue with facts.
