This is funny, but most people are said to only use 3-5% of their
    brains.

    What is the invention?

Yes, we've all heard it "said" that people use only a small percent of their
brains. It would be interesting to learn where this idea originated, and
what evidence there is that it is true. Personally, I doubt it. As organs
go, the brain is a prodigious consumer of oxygen, so that little chunk of it
that is being used must be burning awfully hot.

The question of that assertion's origin has come up a number of times on
alt.folklore.urban; I'm not sure if it was ever resolved, but checking that
group's archives would probably be informative.

In my college Neurobiology class, I was taught that the notion
originated with the 19th century neuroanatomists. Using
selective destruction of various areas on the brains of animals,
and electrical stimulation, they were able to identify the sensory
and motor regions, which take up nearly all of the cerebral
    cortex in animals.

Similar work in humans (much of it from study of brain
injuries during wars of the period) only identified the functions
of small areas in the brain -- most of the brain had no
identifiable function. Somehow, this mutated into the
idea that you only use 5 or 10% (or some small amount)
    of your brain.

Of course, it's a silly idea, but it is so easily grasped by
uneducated minds that it has taken on a life of its own.

That's a poorly reasoned article on the subject. For example,
    it says:

"But if all those parts of the brain are unused, removal or
damage to the "unused" part of the brain should be minor or
unnoticed. Yet people who have suffered head trauma,
a stroke, or other brain injury are frequently severely
impaired. Have you ever heard a doctor say, ". . . But
luckily when that bullet entered his skull, it only damaged
the 90 percent of his brain he didn't use"? Of course not."

The implication is that severe damage or removal of
part of the brain cannot be minor or unnoticed, but
that is flatly untrue. There have been cases of people
with massive damage to the frontal lobes with minor
or unnoticable changes. That was often the case
with lobotomy patients, in which the entire frontal
lobes were essentially disconnected from the rest
of the brain. Usually, it would result in behavioral
changes, which was the intended result, but if the
operation was performed too conservatively (too
far anterior), there would often be no perceptible
change in the status of the patient.

Only if most people are Jan Drew. That statistic is a bunch of hooey and has
    no scientific basis.

Sure there are a lot of underachievers and unused brain power, but that hardly
translates into an exact percentage of brain usages vs brain capacity. If
true, though, it could explain why certain alt-meds are so popular.

    Let me explain:

Of what I wrote, I would like to know what the invention is called in

If most people average less than 10% brain capacity now, then the guy
    has no customers

    However,
The whole thing I wrote is huey just like this invention is to me

But focus on the 3-5% details and if you need the proof for brain
power percentage used, then please prove it successfully in any way
you need to do the job.
I'll be here when you get back.

It's not true. The mere thought of having 95-97% brain for "fun" without
using it is laughable, and fMRI, PET, EEG, cFOS and techniques like that
have shown it to be not true.
