His stepmom would not let him grill last night because they were nearly
out of lighter fluid... ;-P
So, I had him again today for several hours and taught him how to stack
and start a small wood fire in the grill using the proper "log cabin"
technique and newspaper as a starter.
Turns out his dad did NOT use newspaper to start charcoal! He squirted
charcoal starter all over it instead, as well as several more times
during the process. <lol>
Ben now knows that, if the wood is dry, you don't need starter fluid to
start a fire.
Period. ;-)
Even a charcoal fire can be started over newspaper with a little
kindling stacked underneath it.
He was also amazed at how much faster and hotter a small wood fire
burned. The chicken drumsticks were done in 1/2 an hour.....
His stepmom learned something too, how delicious chicken is marinated in
Wishbone brand italian salad dressing. So much easier than making up
your own if you are in a hurry! She got to eat lunch with us today after
he finished cooking it.
Also taught him about microwaving corn on the cob in the husk. Easier,
no pans to wash and it comes out more tender and far sweeter than
boiling it. He also knows that corn is NOT low carb so it's just an
occasional treat for the time being.
He's having a good time and really is looking forward to showing his mom
what he can do when he gets home. He's all boy and loves to grill!
His weight lifting technique is also going well. He picks up things fast
and is really enjoying it. Even doing deadlifts....... <lol>
