A little bit of background for ya,

My wife is participating in the ryka Iron girl this August. I wanted to get her a bike to train on since this is her first Triathlon. I bought the Lemond yesterday and she loves the ride, it's just the handle bar position may be to aggresive and low for her. I heard the trek has slightly higher handle bars and is an easier ride. SHe isnt trying to win the Iron girl, but she wants to finish, that is the goal. Now, doing even more research last night I noticed both bikes share alot of the same components. The trek is an 8 speed, and the Lemond is a 9, which appears to be the main difference from the 2. Any thoughts or ideas? Is going to the trek going to be a bad thing? Or potentially better since it's an easier ride? Thanks guys/gals, all your help is appreciated.

  2. To raise the bars on the T1000, all you have to do is flip the stem upside down and reattach. Presto--higher bars!

  3. Awesome, thanks for the tip😎

So do you think it's a bad idea to switch to the trek? I mean basiclly they have virtually the same components.....

  4. Sorry, I misread your post and thought you had bought the Trek rather than the Lemond. Both are good bikes. [My #4 son has a T1000, with which he's quite happy.] If your wife is happy with the Lemond, great! 9-speed is preferable to Trek's 8. The same trick, inverting the stem, is an easy way to adjust bar height on either bike; however, raising the bars will result in a less aero position, and, at speed, drag will be increased substantially. That's your (her) trade-off.

  5. I'd get the Lemond simply because of the Landis trial...

Well, it looks like we are probably going to buy the trek 1000 WSD. After careful review and research, it appears that the 2 bikes are very similar, except for the fact that the trek is an 8 speed, and is a little easier to ride, the objective is again to not win the race, but to complete it, and also to have a bike that we can hit the BWI trail with.

NO! Not another blind Armstrong follower....

    Just kidding.

    Hope you enjoy the bike!
