Well it certainly made me think that I probably do ride quite a lot with the assumption that
familiar roads are going to be clear of such obstacles if there's little traffic to worry about and
I know where the potholes are. (Which ofcourse they generally are.) Looking around at the
countryside or the stars in the early mornings is part of the enjoyment neccessary to keep me from
getting my car back on the road. At least on the offroad sections I'm on the lookout for loose
stones and suchlike in the path.

Easy to do in summer, a bit less so around now IME - too many leaves, bits of stick and the like
lying on the road. It's a minefield around here at the moment :-(
