I saw it at Costco also last week.
Has anyone seen it, own it or have any comments about it.

From the subject line I thought the Ortega cheap Mexican foods company from
the supermarket section put together a cookbook. I wondered, they only make
about 20 products, how did they come up with 1080 recipes!??

I haven't see the cookbook. But "30 years bestseller," it's gotta be a good
cookbook you'd think.

I'm more familiar with Mexican rather than Spanish cuisine.

I also saw it at CostCo but I didn't realize what it was. The
title itself "1080 recipes" just turned me off right away.
Usually that kind of title, to me, just indicates a book of
unrelated recipes from various sources thrown together into a
book - so I didn't even look at it.

Andy, I'm reading "The United States of Arugula" by David Kamp. Somewhat
interesting. On p. 123 it talks a bit about Alice Waters (Chez Panisse). It
says "Chez Panisse" which opened in 1971, has some legitimate claim to being
the most influential dining establishiment in America..." and goes on to say

"... a pretty but unassuming place that sits on an okay but not particulary
attractive stretch of Shattuck Avenue in the northern part of Berkely ...."

This was right around the corner from where a friend lived. I can't recall
if you were stuck on Haight ;-)) at the time or not. Did you ever go there
in the 70's?

This book, "Notable Book of the Year - NYT Book Review" is sort of
interesting to those who will remember the James Beard, Claiborne, Julia
Child, Franey times.

I'm going to buy it today at Costco -- if DH ever gets his act together to
get us out of the house -- they'll be closed by the time we get there!

books is getting higher.

You can check that out online, they are good about listing the
information for each location. Around here they're certainly open
on Sundays.

Costco in the Phoenix area is open on Sundays, but that would be a rather
long trip. :-) Why not call the store and find out, or check on the
Internet Store hours are usually posted.

I got the book -- it was wrapped, so I didn't have to buy a 'fingered' book
;-) But it is soo thick that that is no doubt the reason.
They are selling it alongside the "Silver Spoon" book which they were
selling when it first came out. They tout the 1080 as Italy's "Silver
Spoon."

I dropped by Borders (always looking for a bargain) and I found the Cook's
Illustrated "Restaurant Favorites at Home" in hardback
http://tinyurl.com/2uvl7e. I have many of Cook's Illustrated series of
books, and this one I didn't have and wasn't going to buy. But who can
resist $4.99. There just might be something in there ... although I've
checked it out at the library previously.
