  1. I have a question about my recently purchased trek 1500 with 105 brifters,
105 triple front and ultegra rear. When I am in the big ring in the front I
can only use about 6 of the 9 rear cogs befroe I get chain rub. Is this
normal for this set up or is it out of adjustment?

I have figured out the trimming of the front but that only seems to work on
the middle and small front rings and not the big ring. Is this typcial for
    a triple set up?

Yes . . . to a degree. I probably would be hoping to get /7/ out of
    nine, but . . .

You'll find that--with your middle ring--you more than likely get
equivalent gears without going "cross-chain." Cross chain (also
induced with your little chainring and your little gears (in the back)
puts excessive load (and wear) on the drivetrain and should be
    avoided.

Yes. Adjustments to the big ring (and, typically, the little ring)
are achieved by proper setting of such things as limit screws and
    cable tension. More here:

As long as they're the /right/ 6 rear cogs (the smaller ones), then it's
normal. (Like Neil said, 7 is a bit better, but then you're definitely
approaching cross-chaining.) Think of it as God's (er, SHIMANO'S) warning
    buzzer.

Yes, the big ring has no trim adjustment -- and I'd venture to say that
/most/ people never use the SMALL ring trim, as that too means it's close to
cross-chain time. (Although I want to start making a point to use my small
ring a little more, as my tendency has been to ONLY use it for total granny
gearing w/top 2-3 cogs, and that might mean wearing out my middle ring a
    little sooner?)

Sounds OK to me. I use a 105 triple on 8-speed and I never use anything
larger than the 6th smallest sprocket when in the big ring. The other
    gears are probably dupes anyway.

Trim only in the middle ring for ultegra and 105 left shifter. DA has
big ring trim in the triple but not those below it.

Ultegra 10s triple has a trim setting on the big ring as well.

My Ultegra has trim in little and middle. (Are they the same trim?)
