1. Performance (Same or better?)
2. Cost (Colorado Cyclist has DA 10sp for $30 and Campy C10 for $38.)

Started out using C10 chains but after breaking the chain a couple of times during climbs I decided
to experiment with alternatives. Tried using Shimano 9 speed chains and found them prone to rattling
due to their wider width. It's possible to fine tune the shifting so as to mitigate the rattling but
the tolerances are pretty tight. Once adjusted properly the Shimano 9 speed chain works fine with my
Campy 10 speed drive train. I didn't have any problems. Then one day a friend asked me if I wanted
to try out the KMC 9 speed chain model 9200. I bought it and took it home and measured its width. To
my pleasure this chain was ever so slightly narrower than the Shimano chains. Where the Shimano
chain would measure 6.6mm in width, the KMC one would measure about 6.58 to my best eye seeing
guess. I've now been using the KMC chain for the last 8000k and find it out performs the Shimano
chains in longevity and quietness. Plus it's a lot cheaper to boot! Campy C10 chains are not worth
the money and for me break too easily.

I used a C10 chain with a Connex link for 8000 km last season with no problem at all. The wear is
minimal (less than 1 mm measured over 108 links; properly maintained of course) and I had my share
of climbing. Like the C9 chains I used in the past I very satisfied with the the Campy chains. I
once had a C9 chain that broke twice within 500 km. Took it back to my LBS and he gave me a new
one for free. No problem since. Bad batch I would say. It happened also with a SRAM PC59 and
Connex on my MTB. They all were replaced for free. One bad experience doesn't make a type of chain
bad. Not a reason to switch to a Shimano chain and compromise shifting performance or live with
rattling sounds.

DA 10s cogs are a lot closer together than Campagnolo, so I think that using a DA 10s chain may be
noisey. I still recommend a Campagnolo 10s chain, with the link, for Campagnolo 10s. Then using a
Connex linmk first time ya gotta take it off to clean it. We have had NO issues with Campagnolo 10s
chains post Permalink.

I also think all the other 10s chains may be to thick for DA...

Like hubs, I think DA and Campagnolo is the way to go ala chains.

Yeah you're right Lou. Maybe it was a bad batch. Interesting also that I also had SRAM PC59 chain
breaking problems too. But still in my final analysis the C10 chain just doesn't compare with the
KMC9200Z chain. The C10 may be lighter but for the price of one C10 chain I can get at a minimum 3
KMC 9200Z chains. No rattling or rubbing sounds. Nada. No special tools to mess with either.
Possibly the only drawback to the KMC chain is that it's heavier.
