  1. To celebrate holidays, I did 10,000 meters today. And I used a heart rate monitor to check
    my effort.

First 5,000 was straight swim. I did it for 1:23.30, at heart rate of
149.The second 5,000 was mixture of pull and kick sets, did it for
149:1.50, at heart rate of 117. So I finished the 10,000 meters in just 3 hours and 1 min.

My average masters workout is about 4,000. So today's session was hard and I can still feel my sored
arms. I am exhaused but feeling high.

My resting heart rate is 45 and max is 169 in the pool.

Congratulations! That's quite an effort! Our team did a 30 minute fitness challenge yesterday.
After a 600 warmup I squeezed 1850 yards into 30 minutes. Then we continued with the rest of the
    workout, for another 1500 yards.

  3. Omigosh! This puts my mere 8000 yards to shame!

  4. Hugo, that's absolutely awesome!!! Just curious, how much body-fat do you have? I can barely do 2000
yards per workout and my body fat is lowered rather quickly since I started swimming again 3 months
ago. I'm freezing whenever I'm not working out. Thanks.

Often 'yards' are used on this group. Do you have swimming pools where you measure the distance in
yards? 1000 yards is circa 900 meters. It's rather big difference.

Yes, I had a bottle of Accelerade with me and drank some after the first 5,000m and finished the
    whole bottle after the swim.

I was cold and hungry aftter the 10,000m for sure.

I WAS cold and hungry after the swim. My body fat is around 16-18%, used to be in low 20%, but I
have lost around 8 pounds for the last 3 months due to increased volumn and intensity of workout.

1,850 yards in 30 minutes? That is very good time too, considering you only started regular swim
training a few months ago. You are going to beat me in a few weeks if you progress according to your
    current pace.

times it is set up in yards (short course).

I'm working hard at it. My coach thinks I'll be able to qualify for something by the Short Course
Yards nationals. I have the best coach 🙂) Just did a double workout today... about 3000 in the
morning and 2400 tonight. I do a double about 3 times a week noedays, and a single on other days.
Take maybe one day a week off, or just an easy workout.] I'm very pleased with my progress 🙂

yea, pools here are often 25 meters by 25 yards, with lane lines set up in yard direction. Our
olympic pools are 50 meters by 25 yards. If you go to swiom meets, there are 3 seasons througout
the year, Long course meters, whjere you swim in a 50 meter pool, short course meters, where you
swim in a 25 meter pool, and now we're at the short course yards season, where you swim in a 25
    yard pool.

The aquatic complex where I swim has a yard pool and a meter pool, so on any given day we can end
up swimming yards (short course yards) and the next day we can end up swimming long course meters.

Around here it's definitely two seasons. During the shortcourse season there are a few random pools
that are 25m for some strange reason (my daughter competes at one pool which is 25m once or twice
per season). Everything else is SCY or LCM.

I don't know why the US built so many pools in yards. It was probably the same kind of thinking that
today means you can't use your cell phone everywhere in your own country. And then there is eight
and a half by eleven inch paper. And Fahrenheit. In my hometown, even the long course pools were 55
yards instead of 50 meters. But at least we had two of them. That was quite an achievement for a
town of less than 100,000 people back then.
