It's a dumb question, and he should have asked before he bought the wrong fork. (if I'm reading between the lines correctly)

Anyway CommanderZero - no offense. I've asked a few in my time as well.

its alright, no offence taken. i didnt buy the wrong fork. someone is giving me a cro-mo frame with shocks, and i thought i could use it for a small restoration job. the problem is the shocks already on the frame are frozen solid from rust. the rest of the parts i have, back wheel, crankset, headset, ez-fire levers, pedals. im trying not to spend over $120 for the rest of the parts, as this is only a small restoration job. i know some forks have switchable steerers to change it to 1", but i dont know where to get them.

The answer is no. It would be nice, as most good forks now only seem to come in 1 1/8"....or at least the selection of 1 1/8 is far greater.

I've seen some older 1" MTB forks at www.nashbar.com from time to time.

Check Ebay and your local shops for old 1" forks. They'll probably be cheap. One of our local mechanics recently scored a Rockshox Judy in fine shape for a kid with an old steel Trek.
