Now I need a beer!
WOW that is a long way. I feel good if I do one long ride a week and still
to make the 100kms a day thing.

4 years ago I found it hard to ride 10km. A combination of little
steps turns into a giant stride.

Planned :
100,125,175,100,150,200,150
Actual :
92,152,170,106,155,201,137
It's more about time management and eating enough (and a good base to
be able to keep doing it, if 100km isn't a recovery ride, forget it).
As with any structured plan, a recovery is built in (the 100k days 🙂
). As of about Friday, I was getting pretty dead legs and it was
taking 30 mins or so of easy spinning before I could get any fluidity
in my pedaling. I did a lot of riding late at night (time management,
I have a job or 3 to do as well as ride, must pay bills!). While the
1k in a week is a funky milestone, I did it as part of a short term
goal as a stage in preparation for the upcoming road season. It's not
an end in itself.

A - bloody - mazing.
So there is hope for me. 2 years ago, first time out after 40 years had to rest 3 times to go 5k. Now doing 300k a week.
Truly inspirational. Psst wots the secret.

So, how does the AlpineClassic fit into yer plans?
PS they have good beer too 😄

Very well, keep it up, encourage others to aim for the same sort of ability on a bike and look ahead to maybe a 1000kms in 70 odd hours on an Audax ride, maybe even one of the greatest experiences a cyclist can experience - the PBP.
Good on you

Strength endurance work. It's at the end of a recovery week 🙂

Mmmm, pizza, beer .... synergy

There's no secret. You build up gradually, recover, repeat. The only
"trick" is to be committed to a goal and to do your best to stick at
it, and to have sub-goals along the way. Ie: have a plan.

I think I need a day's rest after just reading this! 😄
Awesome effort...

I am impressed. I will happy to rack up 1000km in a month!

heh. I don't do (nor do I get my riders to do*) very low cadence work
that this article discusses. We do a lot of hillsprints (which it
does) for strength training, but the hill work is strength endurance,
but not at abnormally low cadences - *except* where necessary.
We'll simulate steep hills with cadences as low as 70rpm by pushing
(grinding) big gears but that's specifically to target hill work where
cadences drop that low by necessity (ran out of gears! can't spin ...
must grind).
Without the time to get bogged down (no pun intended!) if you don't
train at a cadence and load, you don't get better at riding it. I try
and climb at around 75-80 rpm (higher if I can) and that's what I'll be
doing the Alpine at (I have a 27, I love to use it 🙂 ). I did Baw Baw
at around 50-60rpm(!) simply because I couldn't turn the gear any
faster and no lower ratios to use.
As a roady sprinter (ie: fat, lazy [censored] who can't ITT or climb) I
cruise at 90-95rpm on the flat, but my cadence drops under high load
(hills), if I don't train at that cadence, I don't improve at it.
* - except where some of them have had it recommended to them by
cycling physiotherapists - eg Emma Colson, in which case we've fitted
it into their plans. I'm a coach, not a physio, and will always take
the advice of a specialist in the field of injury prevention &
treatment.

You should be out training for racing!
Get to it 🙂
Wow... what a commute!
Congrats Bleve. You deserve the beers.

Well done! Did you follow the 10% rule in building up to 1000km?
I upped my weekly (run) mileage from 20km to 70km last week. (Only 3
runs though, and 30km of it was trail).

Roughly. Some of the leadup was high intensity stuff (bear in mind
that the 1k in a week thing is a stage in my training for road season)
and some was MTB riding etc. I'd done a number of 700 and 800k weeks
before it spread out over a couple of months. This is a recovery week,
then back into interval work again. E3's, hillsprints ... w00t!

I did 220 in a day once. And rode to work the next day. Took me a little
longer than usual though. :-)
