Well I know that the norm in Holland is for the rear brake to be on the
right rather than the left. I guess it varies from country to country.

I think it is determined by what side of the road you drive on, the theory being that you brake with one hand and signal with the other. Almost killed me when I moved to Canada. If you think learning to drive on the other side is bad, try learing to brake with the other hand.

I think motorcycles the world over have the front brake on the RHS which is
consistent with bicycles here. It must be difficult if you ride both in a
country where they vary between motorcycyle and bicycle.
