Question: So which is more of a freak? The lady in a tutu or a guy on a
    unicycle?

    - Lady in Pink aka NYC's Wishing Fairy
    - The Unicycle Guy
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

I ride a 26" MUni with an Alex DX32 Rim and a Profile Hub and it is
already a little bit warped from doing some heavy riding for about three
    months.

Is being 6'6" and weighing around 230lbs really not helping the
situation? Im afraid to get another unicycle because im gonna taco the
    rim or break the cranks.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is weighing 230lbs too much for the
type of riding i wanna do?

im open to all types of questions/comments/smart remarks

oh...and which is more weird, a lady in pink in Central Park or a guy on
    a unicycle?

I invented popular videos games such as "Dig Dug" and "Q-Bert"

I also came up with the name "Frogger." Can you believe they wanted to
    name it "Highway Crossing Frog"?

What would be weird in Central Park would be a day without both of
    those.

As for the other matter, perhaps you need a heavy-duty zircon encrusted
    unicycle.

Moreover, love in its very nature implies the capacity for sacrifice, in
other words, nonattachment as far as material goods, or popularity, or
simple bodily pleasure in eating or making love, or the enjoyment of
beauty in art and nature are concerned. But this is not the same as
loathing these things or feeling guilty about enjoying them when they
are bestowed upon us. - A.J. Muste

  3. It's not how much you weigh, it's how hard you land. Technique, that is.
We don't get to pick our general body size. I don't know how out-of-true
your wheel is, so it's hard to make a judgement. But the cycles are made
to be used, and a little wear & tear should not be a big problem. Just
don't buy any cheap stuff. Smaller wheels will be more warp-resistant
than larger ones, so worry less if you're shopping for a Trials.

On the poll, I voted for the pink lady. I've never seen her in Central
Park before, but I have seen lots of unicyclists.

He has an Alex DX-32 and a Profile setup...I think he got past the
    'don't buy cheap stuff' already

(if the profiles are bent, they will be replaced for free, if it is the
rim that is warped, spoke tensioning might solve the problem)

I've seen the pink lady in Central Park, but I've never a unicyclist.
(only been there a few times, tho).

Don't joke around about Q-bert. That game was more than sublime.

I was thinking the same thing. That's a tough wheel and it ought to
take some mighty hard riding to warp it. Unless the spokes weren't
properly tensioned and trued, that it. Loose, non "stress relieved"
wheels are almost guaranteed to warp a little on a unicycle where they
get pushed towards the cranks each revolution.

  7. If you manage to trash the DX32 there's always Surly's Large Marge.

I tested one of these this summer:
    http://www.gb4mfg.com/temp/lm_test/

The tire should still clear in your frame, but it would be smart to
measure your frame before ordering one. The tire spreads to about 3.12"
    of actual width.

The cross section of the rim looks pretty funny in the QBP catalog.
It's worth looking up just for a laugh the next time you're in your LBS.

  8. I weigh 230, and ride urban trials and Muni. As long as I true'd my 24"
dx32 ocationally, there wasnt a problem. I rode that rim hard for
almost two years, and it's still only slightly worse than the day I got
it. I did however manage to work the keyway loose on a profile hub and
ruin a pair of profile cranks in the process. Not to mention bending
-alot- of pedals in the process. I think towards the end (before I
switched most of my heavy riding to a 19"😉 I was getting better, and
able to land with less damage done.

I think what I'd do, if I were to learn and experience dropping again,
I'd work on technique alot more, before moving up to higher drops.

So in direct response to your question: No, 230 pounds is not too heavy
for the type of riding you want to do, as long as your willing to suffer
through a learning period where you will inevitably wear your unicycle
    and proform the necisary maintenance.

    Good luck.

  9. about four months ago, I tipped the scales at a hefty 245lbs. At this
weight I did a 7'10" drop onto a hardpack landing. I rode away with my
rim as strait as an arrow. That was on a DX32 mod rim, and a profile
    hub.

When you buy a new wheel, you have to realize that after you ride for a
while you will need to have the wheel retensioned. The spokes will
stretch a little bit, weakening the wheel. This should be done a few
    times to protect your rim.

As I type this, I weigh in at 202lbs. The biggest difference I have
noticed is that I can run a much lower tire pressure without having the
tire fold under big drops and when I jump from a sloped surface.
