Don't know what horror stories you have heard about Polar (other than power meter issues), I have used a polar S720 for the last 3 years, and it is absolutely awesome as a bike computer and HRM.

The cleanest setup I have seen is the Mavic Wintech. It is simple and elegant.

I concur that the Mavic setup is nice. At present i have a C10+ which is very nice and reliable, purchased a few months ago for about 45 euros.

Consider it.

My vote for the s720i.

I used to have a Polar s510, that was great, but gave it to my girlfriend and replace it with the s720i. This one is fantastic with tons of features and more practical if you like the hability to transfer/analyse your trainings on a computer. I switched to the s720i to be abled to store more than one exercise (unlike the s510).

I haven't got a single problem with either of them although I like the s720i IR interface better than the s510's Soniclink (using a microphone). I know that some people had problems with the USB IR Interface and XP. The one I got said XP compatible on the packaging and works flawlessly.

I bought the Polar 725 this spring and have ridden about 900 miles with it. Initially I had a defective speed sensor, but Polar replaced it. I added a cadence sensor about 4 weeks ago and love the setup. Training with a heart monitor helped me go from 18 mph to 22mph average on a 1.5 hour ride, before I was riding a too high a heart rate at the beginning of my ride. When I ride I leave the display on speed and cadence along with the heart rate. I upload the data to my computer and it has a workout calendar along with graphs showing the ride including heart rate, speed, cadence, altitude, temperature, calories burned and averages. Obviously from my speeds I am just a recreational rider but it is nice to have your ride improve even at 47. The heart rate sensor is useful at the gym because most aerobic equipment is compatible with Polar

I've got a Polar HRM that doesn't include the bike computer which I run separately. The only problem that I've had with the HRM is that around exposed power lines, which there are a lot of, it somtimes records bogus highs of HR's in teh 230's. It's not enought to screw up my avg's but it shoots the max value.

On my new bike I'm running a HAC4 which is wireless for speed but needs a cable for the Cadence. It's complicated but works great with the home computer once you get it setup right.

For my older bike that I ride on a trainer a lot without the front wheel I will probably get the Cateye CD300DW since it's the only wireless I've come across that runs both functions off the back wheel (from a single sensor with two arms). Looks pretty slick but I don't know anyone running it. I have used Cateye's before and like them. The sensor looks pretty big... Also it's the only one that I've seen that shows you time, dist, speed and cadence all at the same time, but this makes for a large display up on your bars. They do have what appears to be a nice mounting kit that floats the computer out in front of your stem, haven't seen one mounted though...

One other thing that you didn't ask about, the HR200DW has a HRM function, but I'm not considering that so I didn't do any research on it.

Another vote for Vetta. I have the V100HR (heart rate) with the cadence option and it's been rock solid. It's 2-bike memory is handy also as I routinely transfer it between my road and mtb (just required the purchase of an extra kit).

I like using the Polar or I also have VDO which is wireless! So far so good with both of them.

Have been using the ciclosport HAC4 since february with no complaints. Mine appears to be built rock solid. Software takes a little getting used to, but once you do, I find it to be very powerful. Just make sure you get the latest versions from there web site.

I have the Vetta V100HR wireless speed and cadence. It does everything I want without over complicating it like the polars. It feels more like a regular traditional bike computer.

i have the shimano flight deck wireless system and have used it for a full season now and didn't have a single problem with it

Another Flight Deck user here with no problems. That said, I wish it also measured vertical feet climbed and % grade.

Are you able to download data into a computer with this model? Also, is it easy to set up?
