Well, i got my new cyclocross bike. She's a beautiful speed machine. a 2005 cannondale cyclocross model (without discs of course). anyways, i need a shorter stem for it. I have ordered it and it is on the way. Tonight i took it out for a ride with the longer stem still on, and started to feel very sory in the back of my neck. it felt like i had to look up too much and my neck was aching. will the shorter stem cure this?

It should. Are your handlebars the correct width (about as long as your shoulders)?

I was stupid and niave when i bought my racing bike, knew little about frame sizing at the time and the salesman at my LBS obviously wanted to get rid of his stock. I bought a Fausto Coppi Lombardia which I love to bits but the frame size is way to big for me, im kicking myself that i didnt do my research before hand. Anyway getting to the point hehe.... The first thing I done was buy a shorter stem after realising that the frame was to large and one that was more angled. I mounted it so that the angle was facing down more than the original and the handle bars now sit a couple of cm's closer to me and a tad lower. In all honesty I cant really notice a vast difference and still get the occasional neck and back aches.. My own fault really for being talked into buying the bike in that frame size. Thats only my story though, you never know your new stem may fix the cure of your acheing neck. Good luck and glad your enjoying the new bike 🙂
