by older cyclists when I started racing in the 1970s. National team
jerseys, all championship jerseys and especially world championship jerseys
are earned. Only the person who earned it should wear it. This was
discussed at great length here a few years ago. Some will disagree, but
that's my feeling.

I have a slightly different take. Some of the money gets back to the program
and that's a good thing. I'd never wear one for anything other than a solo
ride, or with family, but then I don't buy pro team gear other than hats. We
have a batch of Telekom stuff that isn't gear, or is signed, so that doesn't
get worn to ride. I do have a jersey from a German club that I never
technically belonged to, but that was another junior squad that Robert trained
with, Klause coached and we rode with a bunch.

Why do you keep bringing this up? If I remember from the thread that you
started a few weeks ago, many people purchase online from Performance and
don't get spammed. I buy from them all the time and the only emails that I
get are receipts for my purchases.

I see lots of guys out in full team kit (Mapei and Postal most
frequently). It's always just one guy at a time. But this last weekend, I
saw a group of 4 or 5 (ahem) Fat Masters out in full '98 era Cantina Tollo
kit. What were they thinking?

At first I thought I must have missed this. So I looked up the
thread on Google. I didn't miss it, it never happened.

A number of years ago I bought something online from them. I
got spammed and spammed and spammed and spammed. Each one
came with directions for two methods to stop the spam. One
was a standard 'replay with unsubscribe' or something like
that, and one was a web accessed account setting. Neither
worked. After many, many attempts I started emailing customer
support to please stop the spam. I flushed a lot of time in
this effort and eventually gave up. The total elapsed time
was about a year. Then I gave up.

Spam, spam, spam. A mail filter fixed the problem. Procmail
rocks.

Maybe they've stopped doing it. I sure hope so. But they
caused me enough trouble that I won't take the chance. And
wouldn't recommend anyone else take the chance. What really
bugs me was the misrepresentation that there was a method
to stop it when there wasn't. That misrepresentation cost
me a lot of time and effort.

You forget that Tom K. is a world champion and Olympian in _both_
hammer-balancing and virtual RBR boxing. I know his modest demeanor
makes it easy to overlook his athletic prowess, but it's true.
Surely of all of us poseurs, he is the one best suited to wear
this Olympic jersey. Were I to see him on the road, I would know
that I was in the presence of greatness, that otherwise I might
ignorantly overlook.

Of course the real culprits behind spam are the simpering bureaucrats and
lying, cheating, thieving politicians who permit it, uttering verbal dihorrea
about ``Freedom os Speech'' and suchlike plattitudes as the reason for their
Laissez-Faire attitude towards UCE.

The real reason of course is that the politicians, all of whom would Steal
Christ off the Cross and then Sneak back After Dark for the Nails, are
beholden to the spammerz for much of the Lucrative Swill that goes into the

Spam isn't limited to the most annoying and persistent junk that you see in
your mailbox if you don't whitelist. Governments and Major Corporations are
prolific spammerz too.

Case in point, use the Google directory (you will notice that Davey didn't say
``Search Engine''?) for almost anything these days and you will be exposed to
spam more blatant and annoying than anything that might appear in your
mailbox.

Why do you think that the Google Corporation, when the stock markets open
later today and the shares are offered to the suckerz for the first time, will
have a value of 90 Billion US Dollarz?

Dump Google, and others of its Ilk like Excites, Yahoo etc.

Use AllTheWeb instead the same as Davey does and replace your browser's default
search engine with AllTheWeb. Sheesh, if you don't know how to do this
yourself, Davey coded up a great little Patch that works great under Linux on
all the Nut$crape family of Browzerz.
