  1. Just bent my Avid 160mm rotor, I can get a Diatech for $15 from Nashbar,
or an Avid for $35. This is the first rotor I've replaced (it is badly
bent ... this time), anyone unhappy with the a lesser name for rotor
    replacement?

Watch out! I've used "non brand" rotors before and always found their
specs to be just slightly off. If your using mechs it's probably not a
problem but my hydros rubbed terribly. Stuck a true Hayes roto on, and
    the problem went away.

Why would mechs have greater tolerance than a hydro system?

You can adjust the calipers. So if a rotor was cut just slightly
thicker than spec, a turn of the dial and the rubbing stops.

You can't adjust hydros? That seems weird.

Can I assume you mean thickness when you say the specs are off?
Unless they are terribly thick, I can't imagine that being a problem
    with Avid Mechs.

Aside from shimming the rotors, loosening the bolts, and repositioning
the brake, no. Remember, mechs are cable actuated and hydros use
hydrolic pressure from oil in a closed system (at least that's how it
was explained to me). Although, I think I read that Hope has a new
model that does have some caliper adjustment. Avid Juicy's and the new
Hayes model just adjust for modulation.

Thickness wouldn't be a problem with mechs as I stated in the thread
with Monique. However, if the diameter was off, that could be a
potential problem. All things considered and if I had mechs (though I
don't) I would be a cheapskate and go against my true beliefs. Worst
case scnario is that if you buy them from Nashbar, you could always
return them if there was a problem.

You should be fine with the lesser brand. The Diatechs have a little more
metal in them. On long descents can really stink up the pads.

I guess I don't care too much, especially if it adds a little more
    durability to it.
I guess for $15 I can try it out, If I don't like it it can be a spare.

Hydraulic open-system brakes don't have any adjustment for the rotor
thickness because they don't need it. They compensate for rotor
thickness automatically. If your brake continued to rub after a few
squeezes of the brake lever, you simply have too much fluid in the
system. A properly set up brake should accomodate the extra thickness
of the Aztec rotor with no problem.
