Like the other responder said, it's hard to beat the HIDs on sale for ~$270.

I, too, had a major resentment against NiteRider. Bought a Digital Pro 12-E
(or whatever it was called) AND AN EXTRA BATTERY, and had nothing but
problems almost from start. (And I live within 5 miles of their HQ, too,
and STILL never got effective help.)

Swore I'd never own another NR product, but then I heard about a trade-in
program so was able to get a good deal on a BlowTorch. Other than the lame
quick-release mount (since re-designed), it's been trouble-free for ~2 years
now.

At that price range I'd be tempted to get one of the Niterider Storm HID
lights on sale for $270 at jensonusa.com, but it sounds like you want to
avoid NR. I run NiteHawk Dual Pro lights (10W and 20W, 12V halogen).
No problems after 3 wet/snowy winters of commuting. They're cheap
($100) and reliable, but weigh 3 pounds and have a short runtime, due to
the SLA battery.

The on/off switch for each light is on the cord, not the light, and I
don't have room on my HBar to mount them, so I have the switches on my
downtube.
