I just bought a new MTB (KHS Descent). The bike is like 5 years old even though it's new from my local cycling shop. I removed the stickers last night with a hair dryer and finger nails. I like the plain look and think the ads were too catchy and inviting to thieves. Anyhow, the stickers came off alright but left a very thin, shiny backing on the frame. It's so thin I can't get a nail under it. I bought some Goof Off and a plastic putty knife today. Anyone have any experience with this approach? Obviously I want to keep the paint job intact. Thanks for any and all suggestions!

The best thing to use for removing sticky stuff from paint/plastic is eucalyptus oil. can be bought from the chemist or supermarket. makes the place smell nice also :o)

Thanks for the reply, geoffs. The thing is, this stuff is smooth. It's the exact shape as the sticker(s). It's like maybe the top part of the sticker came off and left the bottom part. The hair dryer doesn't work on it. My frame paint is flat so these shiny clear "stickers" really stand out in the right light. I used Goof Off (smells like acetone) on it a few minutes ago to no avail. It just made the (?) plastic really clean and not oily. I'm at a loss. I know there is something out there that will do the trick. I just don't know what it is.

Mr Sheen is a spray on cleaner generally for kitchen surfaces, etc. It works wonders on cleaning the muck off your bike.
Mr Sheen is a silicon based cleaner polish. It's an aresol and therefore contains solvents that can help strip oil and muck off. As is is silicon based it can render anything it's spared on slippery as hell, overspray on the floor is a definite safety hazard. wait for the good oil :o

For the record, I live in California. I see what you're saying about the Mr. Sheen. It sounds like a grease cutter. I need something that will penetrate this shiny skin and dissolve or lift it. I'll be sure to post the results tomorrow night.

Okay, here comes the weirdness. There is a slight depression where the stickers used to be. It turns out, what I thought was a clear backing to the stickers is actually smooth paint on the frame! It seems they put some sort of powder/matte coat finish on it after the stickers were applied. Now, what can I do to make the frame consistant? I'm assuming there's nice shiny paint underneath the matte finish. If the finish gets scuffed, it kind of gets glossy where it was scuffed. Make sense? Any suggestions?
