Wow, thanks I'll be sure not to get any of those, wait a second I must have skipped over the part where you said what makes them unsuitable for a conversion, or where you said which hubs cannot be converted. Is there something to look for that tells you if they can be converted or not?

I'm not gonna write a book on it. Got a clue how many different hubs there have been just since the days of index shifting started in 1985??

Ok more specifically is is possible to convert a current model campagnolo hub to a current model shimano spline?

Varies by manufacturer. Zipp are the only wheels I know of that have an easy to change freehub. The only other hub I have personal knowledge of is DT (as fitted to Rolf wheels), where changing freehubs is a royal pain.

There is no central repository of information regarding quick change freehubs. You will have to check with the individual manufacturers.

I used a Wheels, Inc. converted cassette when I wanted to fit Shimano freehub'd Rolf wheels to my Campy 10 bike.

Think I could get a link on the cassette, that sounds like a good idea.

Some may be easier than others,but there are a number that can be changed.

On built wheels,campy gives you the option.

Actually I was looking specifically at the campagnolo zonda, I've seen one shop that offers a shimano version but it's for a hefty $60 upcharge, so I think that's them buying a conversion part and then putting it on for you. If anyone see's them cheap for shimano please point them out. So far I've found $390 for campagnolo and if I need to pay at least 440+60 upcharge for shimano version I'm out $110 which is the difference between ultegra and centaur.

They address which wheels can accept the hg8/9 freebody and it looks like all of them, good for me 🙂

Now I just have to decide between these and a pair of built wheels. Think I could get something built that compares with these for less, or outperforms these for equal. Same sort of wheel though, I'm 150 some and a racer, ride on flats for the most part.

Anybody know how to find the part WH-KX2 now?

I just got a quote saying the shimano version was a $100 upcharge. ouch.

American Classic hibs are super-easy to do the conversion on, the hub bearings roll well and their pre-built wheels are good quality and light.
