  1. I went to the LBS and got a Trek 7700 with a longer pivot arm and
    a stem extension. The mechanics said it was no problem and didn't
    charge me any extra.

    Thanks for the help. It allowed me to get the bike I wanted and
    to get it equipped the way I want it.

    That is great. I was hoping that the shop would switch the stem for you
