Riding technique

There are tons of 'em. Either search bn.com or go to most local book shops
(LBS?) and look there.
My favourite is William Nealy's "Mountain Bike!"
Hilarious stuff, well written, well drawn.

If you can find one, I'd strongly recommend going to a clinic. It's
amazing what you can do when you have a teacher right there helping you
out.

I think I'm just lucky, though, in that the front range has a ton of
mountain biking resources, especially for women. It may be harder to
find co-ed or men's clinics.

I don't know where you are located, but the club I belong to has a
beginners clinic on the first saturday of each month. Check
www.jerseyactionriders.org for more info. It's taught by IMBA reps and
NMBP.

Find a riding buddy who is more experienced than you and you will be
amazed how fast you can learn JRA

Books have their place. I have two that are very good. Ned Overend's book (and his video, especially), and a book published by mtnbike mag, I think it's called Mountain Biking Skills.
