  1. 30 mile ITT, 15 miles there and 15 miles back, so no wind, flat terrain, 25-year-old rider. What average speed (in mph) would you describe as: world class (A), very good (B), average (C), below average (D), beginner (E)? For instance:
    A-40 (mph)
    B-35
    C-30
    D-25
    E-20

Just copy and paste the following and input your numebers:
    A-
    B-
    C-
    D-
    E-

Thank you for all serious answers.

  2. Nobody could average 40mph on the flats over 30 miles. A lot of decent cyclists can't even sprint up to 40mph on the flats, let alone do a TT at it.

Most pros consider 50kph (which is about 31mph) to be a magic number, therefore I would say 30mph is World Class level. But, I have seen really good amateurs who can also put up World Class level TT times.

It's hard to say what the other speeds would be. You would need to be more specific on what a "Very good" rider is. Cat 2? Cat3? (US designations) Is an average rider an average rec rider, or an average racer?

  3. I realize that 40mph is not within human scope, I just wanted to show what sort of information I am asking without suggesting anything. However, you're probably right that the categories are not really specific. So here are the new ones: (I'm not familiar with cycling categories)

A- world class rider, like top 10 (Armstrong, Ullrich etc)
B- very good racer, like cyclists who ride in great tours (Giro, Vuelta, TdF) but are not TT specialists and do not compete for top places in those races
C- good racer (riding in minor races, say around Australia, Portugal, Poland) or really good amateur
D- amateur riding 5-10 hours per week, with ambitions to become a pro
E- beginner - only riding rec before
