  1. Hi all, Newbie to the forum, great stuff here. I just got my first bike in about 25 years, used to ride alot and then...ya know other things became more important.

I just got a Trek 7100, I did about 5 miles yesterday and man, I had to stand for a few seconds at the end. Is the upright style of the bike causing more pressure on the saddle? I would think so. I cannot ride a road bike due to back problems. So here I am, should I try various adjustments for a while? Would a cut out seat help? Hard or soft. My last bike had a hard as a rock leather seat and I don't remember it ever hurting at all, it was a road bike though. Since I have been out of riding for many moons, I hope all you bike gurus can help me.

    Thanks much, Tony🙂

  2. Since its a new bike it could be several factors. You position may not be correct so your hips may actually be moving while you pedal. In effect you are reaching for the pedals. It has been my experience that I hurt the following day of a ride if I have been out to the saddle for a while not while I'm riding and certainly not in such a short ride. Saddles for me is all about the shape. I had some gel covered number that was painfull. I have one that is solid plastic thats fine. For me if the shape is to round it will hurt me I prefer a flatter saddle. If its a new bike go back to where you got it and say its not ride able in its current layout. Any good shop wants you to enjoy your bike. So thats my first advice. Oh and don't give up.

  3. OK thanks Gub, The shop I am dealing with will help me with anything, I have to go back for a derailer adjustment anyway, I'll see about the seat too, I'll try to adjust it a few times if it doesn't work I'll have to go for a saddle.

    Thanks Tony

  4. Beyond what the other poster mentioned, do a search and you will find that the saddle issue has been quite popular, and there are a number of threads on it!

Check your position, ride for a few more days, and then, if things do not get better, begin to experiment with other saddles.

    Welcome back to riding! 😄

  5. Thanks Pete, I am going riding tommorow and I just got done moving the saddle foward a bit, see what happens tommorow

    Thanks Tony
