RR: Dakota Ridge

Go to the Biking section of <http://www.sunastar.com/>. I just bought a
cheap digital camera that I'm not afraid to take (meaning destroy) on
rides now, so I'm trying to get more shots. I'll put some pics of
Porcupine Rim up soon if anyone's interested.

And thanks, BTW, to those of you doing ride reports. They've inspired me
to ride more and look for places to ride which I might not have known
about.

Nice trail! Gotta love those rocks. Where is Lakewood in relation to
Denver.

Just west, right as the tiniest of foothills starts.

The rocks are a lot of fun to ride on, less fun to crash on.

How do you think it compared in difficulty to Devil's Backbone? Looks
like it requires a lot more uphill endurance, anyway.

I've been thinking of doing this one, but it seems like I've heard scary
things that make me hesitate.

It's scarier than that back part of Devil's Backbone, but it's not
really harder. The technical downhill on DB was difficult for a long
stretch whereas the hard parts in Dakota Ridge are in spurts and a lot
of times right after turns.

The climb out of the parking lot is steep, but mercifully short. At the
far side of the saddle is a short climb. I can make the first set of
logs, but I doubt if I'll ever be able to make the second set. I saw two
guys do the second set one day. The first one just powered up it. It was
amazing! The second guy did it in a more trials fashion. He rolled up to
the first group of logs and stopped; hopped his front wheel up; hopped
around a bit for position; then jumped himself and his bike up to the
next level. Wow! Both were incredible.

Then it heads back down to the road at Dinasaur Ridge, pretty much like
the stuff before the saddle, except a bit more technical and more of it,
just due to the length.

White Ranch is another good trail in this area. I'll post some pics in a
few minutes.
