I don't know what I can do about my sleep situation and may have to discuss it with the doctor. I think the problem might be related to my training.
Wednesday evening I started work at 20.00 p.m. and finished the shift at 8.00 a.m. in the morning (a 12 hour stint). I went back home, got into bed but didn't feel tired. After 2 hours it became clear I wasn't going to be able to sleep at all. In fact, I felt like I could have fought a lion and was feeling so energetic.
I winded up getting up and cycling for over 4 hours. I felt slightly tired by 7.00 p.m. but didn't finally go to bed till 12.00 midnight. Then I slept like a log for 11 hours and today I feel fine.
However, what bothers me is this isn't the first time I've missed a nights sleep and I feel sure my training has something to do with it. It seems I've become excessively alert, especially during the night-shifts. Other guys I work with are able to sneak a couple of hours sleep into their shift while I find I just can't doze off.
Is this a common problem and what can be done?
