  1. With all the [censored] flying around at the moment, this is a pretty sobering
read from way back in 1997. It's nothing we haven't heard before but I
thought it was worth a post.

PS - apologies if everyone here's read this before but I haven't so no
    flaming please!

  2. Fascinating article. Thanks for the link! I found it interesting that
Lance said: "The last VIP (chemos) were inpatient...cycles 3 and 4 I
was sick as a dog, but I didn't lose any weight."

I thought one of the keys to Lances post-chemo success is how chemo
changed his body by making him so much lighter.

What's the matter? Don't have any self confidence? You posted on-subject
which is more than a lot of us do. If someone flames you, you just ignore
the jerk. Someone you don't know and will never meet anywhere in your
lifetime and who probably looks like what is sticking through the hole in
your sock isn't exactly a source of very personal data about yourself.

So he didn't lose it by the time of the interview. Despite his cheer in
the interview (feb '97), it must have taken a lot out of him. It wasn't
until summer of '98 that he started riding well again. Look at the
Graham Watson pic of him on the podium when he won worlds and say he
didn't lose weight...check out this beefcake:

Wow. Those pictures remind me of Jan Ulrich. I am amazed at how much
    different his face looks.

grew up and lost the babyface, 7 more years of focused tour riding, and
    lots of sun.

Back in '86 when I ran my course with TC I thought it was pretty
sobering. You go through all the tests (some of which are more
painful than the treatment, try a Lymphangiogram some time, the scars
in the tops of my feet are the size of postage stamps) and treatment,
but the mental burden is the long term thing. I just passed my 18th
anniversary of diagnosis and still think about it on almost a daily
basis. It happened once, it could happen again or the treatment may
cause a cancer. My cycling is more than simply the joy of riding, but
a way to keep an eye on how my body is doing. Even the worst ride
beats a day of treatment (and having to lie in bed with a bucket
    nearby while watching soaps, bleah.)
