  1. hi, quick question, I am really new to biking (as like, y'know, a legitimate hobby). I got a new Raleigh M20 last week, I am about to go out for another ride but it is raining.....

will rain harm the bike in any way? or I guess I should just say water/wetness/moisture ...... it's a mountian bike so I know it's expected to get "it's hands dirty"... but I just wanted to make sure before I have to cash in on that warranty in a record time =)

Chain wears more quickly as do cogs and chainwheels.
Some water will penetrate bearings and hasten their need to be serviced.
Frame will get dirty. Brakes and rims will wear faster.
If you don't have fenders, you will get dirty even if you are riding on the road.
Some trails are closed when wet to protect the environment.
Your braking distances will be greatly increased.
I hate to pile on the negatives, but you and your bicycle will survive.

racing or training in the rain should bear no long-term problems. When you get home, bounce the bike a couple of times to shake off any excess water. Then you can go off and shower, eat, sleep etc etc

    Clean and re-lube ASAP.

  4. Just clean it and lubricate moving parts regularly and you'll be fine.
