I am going to look at a 'slightly' used 2001 Schwinn Sierra GSX 19". I am a
senior interested in off road biking and perhaps some road riding. My
question: Is this bike worth buying and what is it worth. Thanks!!!

Thanks!!!I can't answer your question, but I can make a suggestion. Using
all-caps is generally considered rude in online communities because it
comes across as shouting. The combination of caps and the vague subject
makes your post look a lot like spam; I almost deleted it without
reading it. For best success in online forums, I recommend following
"netiquette" guidelines.I hope I don't offend you by suggesting the following links:

about software questions, but the principles apply to any type of
question)Some specific comments about your question:
There's no way for us to know if 19" is the right size for you,
especially as you haven't given us any inseam or height info. But I do
recommend that you make sure that the bike feels comfortable to you, as
you're the one who has to ride it.What does "off road biking" mean to you? Flat dirt roads? Some rocks?
Rutty, carved-out Jeep trails? Singletrack? People put mountain bikes
to a wide variety of uses.--

You got information. If you bothered to read far enough.
But in case you missed it:
Yes, 19" is the _perfect_ size for you, especailly as you are a senior (in high
school, kindergarten, or college?)
The price he is asking makes this an absolute steal! Buy it now.Steve "just your average anonymous nobody on Usenet"

Nah. Too immature to be female 🙂 (Besides, he/she/it wants a 19" bike, so
they's a biggun'.)Quoted message said:

Bill "off on a solo night ride, so send medics out if not posting
later on" S.I caught the tp'er part, but figured you were saying that *my* post was
illogical and didn't flow due to aggravation caused by the OP in
question. On re-reading, I finally understand what you meant.Be safe out there with the voracious mosquitos and such!

Buy it now. This definitely proves my point about asking smart questions. I
interpreted "senior" to mean "grey-haired," which is why I was giving
them pointers rather than ignoring or flaming them.--

answered your question. Are you an assh*le or just RFT? Just because she
didn't dot her reply with smiley and grins doesn't mean that your thin
skin should have been breached.Monique is probably curled up in a ball crying now because of your harsh
tone. Oh golly gee willakers this hurts me so. In fact, I think I'm
going to go pull out my fillings and put some mashed potatoes in their
places just so I can feel whole again. But first I'll have a drink.......

Thanks!!!sheesh, I apologize for these guys.
19" is a pretty big frame, you'd better be fairly tall. Have you ridden it
and does it feel comfortable. Valuing used bikes is tricky, and Schwinn is
not a great brand. They used to be, but have sort of turned into a
department store brand.Sight unseen it's maybe a $50 bike... wild guess on my part. ( I made that
number up)penny s

(If you can apologize for me, I can revoke an apology for you.)
Yes, I'm testy today. Stress levels at work are rising; opportunities
to go out and ride are decreasing.--

http://www.epinions.com/content_11575725700My suggestion is to listen to what Penny says, she had been around here
awhile and seems to have a fairly good base of knowledge.
Try riding it to make sure it fits or "feels" right and take it by a bike
shop for them to look it over for mechanical issues.
And if you do buy it, ride it.simpson

When I was a senior..All I could think about was getting laid. Forget the
bike. Get laid instead. But if getting laid isn't your thing..A bike is a
good outlet. That particular bike may not be your style. I would option
for a big hit bike. So if you are young and looking to be a
super-hero,free-rider get a Foes, or Demo 9, Ventana, etc. Forget about the
whole Schwinn thing. But If you are the Senior that gets the discount at
Denny's....An electra cruiser would be a nice start. I wouldn't buy
something used in that vintage.TJ
